No doubt, buying a new car is exciting. But in the thrill of the moment, it’s easy to forget that you have to take care of the paint of your new ride from the very beginning. Here’s how to protect your new car’s paint from the moment you bring it home.

Remember that while your car is technically new, it has been exposed for months to all types of contaminants, from dust to pollen, and more. So the first thing you want to do when you bring your vehicle home from the dealership is to wash it.

Important tip: work from top to bottom and use separate utensils (bucket, sponge, etc.) for the tires. This way you’ll avoid catching grime from the tires and grinding it against the paint of your new car.

Again, your new car has spent months exposed to pollutants, so your job isn’t finished yet. Once your car is dry, use a clay bar or a clay mitt to get rid of stubborn particles that may have bonded to the surface of your car.

Finally, remember to wash your car regularly and wax it every three to four months. This regime is easy to follow and effectively protects your car against some of the most common pollutants.
