As in many other things, the results of your car detailing efforts will only be as good as the supplies you use. But don’t worry, you don’t have to break the bank! These five tools are enough to put you on the right track for great auto detailing.
Sponges
Sponges are essential it comes to auto detailing. However, as useful as they are, some claim that sponges tend to leave swirls on automotive paint. If you want to avoid this possibility, use sponges to clean the less delicate parts of your car and use a microfiber cloth for the painted areas.
Remember to set aside a sponge (or sponges) to use exclusively on your tires and rims. Those parts tend to accumulate a lot of dust and grime and you don’t want to run the risk of rubbing dirt on your car’s paint.
Buckets
This is another essential supply. Any bucket may do, but if you can, try to get some quality car washing buckets: They come with a dirt trap to ensure that the dirt stays in the bottom of the bucket and some even have little wheels to move them easily around your car.
Whatever option you choose, remember to have three buckets at hand. You’ll use one of them to clean the tires and rims, while the other two are for cleaning the body. Using two buckets for the body (one with soapy water and one with plain water for rinsing) helps you avoid washing your car with dirty water.
One more piece of advice: Remember to work on your car from top to bottom!
Microfiber Washcloths
As hinted earlier, you may prefer to use microfiber towels to clean the painted areas of your car. These products are made with car washing in mind: they absorb a lot of water and won’t damage automotive paint.
Professional Cleaning Products
Finally, you need professional cleaning products to ensure the best possible results. The products you choose will depend on your car detailing needs and on your car. You will find a wide range of options available, so take the time to read the labels carefully to make sure that the articles you buy are appropriate for your vehicle.
