Fall is approaching fast, and as with every season change, being proactive is key. Here are five tips to get your car ready for the new season.
Wiper Blades
As a rule of thumb, wiper blades should be replaced every six months. If you haven’t replaced yours in a while, take a quick look: if they leave streaks of water behind, then it’s time to replace them. While you’re there, don’t forget to check the level of windshield wiper fluid.
Battery
Pop the hood and check your battery to make sure that the connections are clean and free of corrosion. Tighten the battery terminals if necessary and remember that if your battery is more than three years old, you should consider replacing it.
Tires
When it comes to tires, the rule is simple: if they have less than 1/8 of tread left, then it’s time to change them. If your tires still have enough tread, consider rotating them—this way they’ll wear evenly, providing a smoother ride and better handling. Finally, don’t forget to check the pressure of all your tires, including the spare.
Wash and Wax
As the first line of protection against the elements, the exterior of your car deserves special care. Wash your car using at least two buckets of water (ideally three), proceeding from top to bottom and using a separate sponge or hand brush for the tires: this way you’ll avoid grinding grime and brake dust against your car’s paint.
Finish off by waxing and buffing to give your ride an extra layer of protection and keep it looking like new.
